Joe Amiel Obituary: Joe Amiel, previous proprietor of Spring Lake’s Old Mill Inn and Sallee Tee’s in Monmouth Beach, kicked the bucket Friday.

An inhabitant of Red Bank, he had been hospitalized at Riverview Medical Center with pneumonia and experienced persistent obstructive aspiratory illness and emphysema, his cousin Linda Amiel Burns said. Amiel was 77.

“He was only a unique person,” said Burns, of Manhattan. “He was straightforward. He helped anyone in the event that they were in a tough situation.

“He tuned in to you when you talked and he offered you great guidance,” Burns said. “He was so shrewd thus kind.
