Scratch was brought into the world in Pittsburgh, PA to Joseph and Rachel Donato. He moved on from Westinghouse High School where he was a fine competitor and kept on playing softball into his 60s. Scratch resigned from Westinghouse Electric, Plant Apparatus Division, after 30+ long periods of administration. He was an individual from Holy Angels Church, effectively filling in as an Eucharistic Minister for almost thirty years.

His leisure activities included model trains, old fashioned vehicles and sports memorabilia. He appreciated going to excursions with his companions so he could impart his energy of those exercises to them. Most importantly, generally essential to Nick was his delight of the every day connections with his family. He anticipated making a trip to Texas a few times each year, particularly during Christmas to celebrate with the whole family.
